3. How long does an energy audit take?
A typical initial energy audit takes about 1.5 hours, while the follow-up audit takes about 45 minutes. An adult must be present during the energy audit.
4. When can I start my home upgrades?
As soon as you have had your initial energy audit, you may begin your upgrades (but not before). You have Until March 31, 2012 to perform your upgrades and have a follow-up energy audit (to document any qualifying upgrades).
5. How much does it cost?
The process consists of two energy audits, an initial visit (D audit) and a follow-up visit (E audit, within 18 months of D audit). For a typical home, the initial energy audit costs $360 + hst. The follow-up energy audit costs $175 + hst. Following the initial energy audit you automatically receive a $150 rebate grant from the Provincial government (mailed cheque).
6. Can I still use Peterborough Energy Audit for my follow-up visit if I used another service provider for my initial energy audit?
Absolutely!. It doesn't matter if another company performed your initial energy audit. Peterborough Energy Audit can still perform your follow-up audit (within 4 days of booking).
7. How much money can I receive in grants?
You can qualify for up to $5,000 in provincial grants (expires March 31, 2012). After March 31st, 2012, we will post new rebates when available.

10. Oh no! My renovation starts tomorrow and I haven't had an energy audit!
Call us quickly! We might be able to get an "emergency" energy audit done quickly for you. We will try our best. Remember, if you upgrade your heating, cooling, insulation, etc...(any upgrades normally eligible for grants) before your initial energy audit, you will unfortunately not qualify for those respective grants.
11. How do I prepare for the energy audit?
Please ensure that you have a copy of a property tax statement / bill or MPAC statement on hand for the energy advisor.
Any wood burning appliances should not be running.
Any open wood burning fireplaces should be cleaned out to prevent ashes from blowing into the home during the blower door test.
